Stick ‘em up!

Usually reserved for packing boxes, fixing random household items, and sealing pipes in emergency situations, the street cred of plain brown tape has just exponentially exploded on the streets of the ‘Dam.

Layers and layers of meticulously sliced tape on PVC plastic boards are the basics which form the dramatic and evocative new ‘tape art’ turned lamp shades which are  gracing the street lamps around the city.

With the subject matter of a lot of street art being spurred from the depths of pop culture and topical issues in society, Amsterdam is being adorned with silhouettes of fine art with tape artist Max Zorn  focusing on romantic scenes from days gone by.

So far, Mr Zorn has created nothing less than emotive and articulate portraits of romantic and strong characters; indignant and masculine boxers, tender moments between lovers, and a twist on the classic “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by dutch artist Jan Vermeer (featuring the Adidas originals logo) makes Max Zorn’s work not only technically amazing but also hugely engrossing.

Max Zorn’s  ’tape art’  is now on display on various lamp posts around Amsterdam’s Jordaan district, and around other central parts of the city. Only visible after dark, now that summer is here you’ll have to venture out between the hours of 11pm and 5am to see them in full effect.
Check his website for exact locations and for more indication of what he’s ready to put up around town.
